So who would have thought that 2 years ago I weighed 155 lbs. Yup – and I have the photos to prove it. Let’s see, a couple of years ago I weighed about 220 then lost over 70 lbs on atkins only to gain it all back and then some within a year (and get a couple kidney stones as well). Did you know that “regular” dieting only works (and when I say works I mean the ability to keep the weight off for at least 5 years) for about 5% of americans? This is why I decided to go forward with the lapband. I know I can lose weight. I’ve done it before. The problem is keeping the weight off. It’s not easy. But check it out. Same person. 2 years apart. One with cheekbones, the other with a double chin. I can’t wait to have my cheekbones back! I look at the picture of me today and think “Lise – what happened to you!”
Cheekbones – one day you have them, the next they are gone.

Lise,
I was also 155 at my “in shape weight.” That was in 2001 before baby #1. I never got back down to that, my lowest was 185. Then I gained another 15 to put me at 200 & I hung out there for a while & then baby #2 brought me to 249 right before giving birth. Went on a doctor-supervised diet, came down to 195 in 2006….gained it all back and here I am at 240 one week before surgery. Baby#2 weighed 9 pounds so I am basically pregant minus the 9 pound baby!! All I know is I’m going to be 155 again and so will you!!! I know that I feel good about myself at 155 & it’s a nice healthy weight for me so I am going to get there with my band & so will you. Here’s to 155!!!
Yeahhhh – here’s to 155!!! Thank you, Sheryl. We will do it. Yes we will.
thank you for your story. i’m not the only one!
Oh man…I remember the kidney stones….NOT a fun time for you!
I’m glad that, that is all over with…I have no pain threshold…I could barely even hear your stories without feeling sore myself…I’m such a wuss!!
I use collar bones as my point of reference. I can’t wait to have collarbones again.
I can’t wait to feel my port!!! I’m going to go around and make everyone else feel it…even if they don’t want to. hehehehe.
Lise,
You are a beautiful woman, in both photos. Your blog is GR8! I can’t wait until I actually FEEL beautiful again. I used to be, but I let myself go after depression set in. I am still having some pain with my port incision but not enough to worry about. My first post-op visit is tomorrow. I’m heading out to the beach for a few days after that to get some much needed sun(if the weather holds up). Can’t wait!!
Lana – you are wayyy too kind! And guess what, not only are we band-twins, but my first post-op visit is tomorrow, as well! yes! how jealous am i that you are heading to the beach. i want to go to the beach…and if you could see how rainy it is right now you would understand why!
First, I just want to say thank you so much for your blogs! I had my preop appt today and was starting to get nervous (I’m a nurse, you’d think it would be a cake walk) anyway, after reading your humorous blogs I’m more excited than nervous. I can completely relate about the cheek bones and double chin. I showed one of my best friends a pic of me from only 3 years ago and she actually asked who it was! She said I look like an entirely different person. I started this process at 216lbs and just 3 years ago was 125lbs. I feel your frustration. I’m also going to print off your food suggestions. I have my surgery on the 19th in Seattle and feel much better about it after reading your blogs.
Also your terriers are adorable, I’m a big fan and have a boston terrier, those terriers can be brats!
Thanks again,
Angela Yarbrough (Oak Harbor, WA)
Angela – you are very welcome! You should definitely be excited – I know so many people who would do anything to get banded…but they have not been lucky with insurance and can’t afford it! I feel like one of the “chosen” ones to be blessed to have this “tool” to help me with weight loss and management.
I am so jealous that you live on Whidbey – my husband and I go there at least 5 weekends every summer with the dogs…it is pure heaven on earth! Have you spent much time in Langley? Our favorite place is Village Pizzeria…but I think we’ll need to be finding a new favorite place…the Fish Bowl is a close second! Ooh – one of our dogs is a boston/rat terrier mix…we call her a brat terrier. And not just for the obvious reason. Take care and let me know how your surgery goes! I’m so excited for you.
